After about five hours and 270 miles of driving, we are on the outskirts of Amarillo Texas. During our drive here, we got off the highway and traveled some of the old Route 66.
The Pony Soldier and Palomino motels are old originals to Rt. 66, but they are dying off. Less than a mile down the road are the newer Hotels which offer the modern amenities for a little more money. It's sad but progress is eliminating what's left of the history of Route 66.

Now in Amarillo, we are at another campground that is full of permanant campers. During a laundry room discussion, Joyce learned that the woman that is in a trailer across from us is divorced, and her ex-husband lives in a trailer about fifty feet away at the end of our row. Small world!!
About a mile west of the campground, is the Cadillac Ranch so we had to check it out. It seems like the graffeti has gotten out of hand, and it's sad that people just leave their paint cans all over the ground rather than dispose of them in the trash.Lots of color
Another shot from the West We also took a ride to the city of Amarillo which is home to the American Quarter Horse Heritage Center and Museum and quarter horse statues are scattered throughout the city. Below are pictures of a few of the life size statues.
Seems that there was a Motel across the street from the campground where we are now. Just noticed the signs!
Flip side of the sign.

The DONKEY is in the picture! If you look really close he is at the fence under the tree. Look in line with the pool ladder.
