We Are Relaxing in Elkhart.

We have been laid back relaxing and doing nothing. The weather is hot and the campground has a pool so we are using it.
Tomorrow we are going to the Elkhart RV museum which is about ten minutes away.

More Studebaker Information

We got up early this morning and headed to the Museum again so we could take our time. Let me tell you....this place was unbelievable. Three floors of fantastic displays.

And it all started here, the first Studebaker? Nope, just the first Studebaker cradle.

I probably took over eighty pictures this day of displays. The tough part was which ones to put in the post. If you are ever in the area of South Bend, this museum is a must. There were three floors full of displays, many of them priceless I'm sure.

Commanders were everywhere.

Such beautiful automobiles.

The Studebaker's were a lot more beautiful back in the 30's. They also seemed a bit on the expensive side but I'm not sure.

Note the discription on the three doors, didn't Saturn introduce the same design not too long ago.

The last Studebaker was built in the Canadian plant.

Ah, the end of a perfect day. I just had to get some of the local chocolate and it was onlt a couple of miles away from where we were.

Back Home Again In Indiana

No, I'm not home, I'm just refering to the song!

We left our overnight stop and drove for about three hours to South Bend.
Studebakers used to be manufactured here in town, there's a museum but it was closing by the time we got there so we plan on going tomorrow.
This is what remains of one of the plants here in South Bend, closed down so many years ago.

You can see The "S" sticking up from the top of the building.

I believe that this was the corporate offices.

The Studebaker emblem still remains. During it's height, most of South Bend must have been employed here. The Oliver tractor manufacturer was about two blocks away from Studebaker.

More info. on Studebaker tomorrow but first I have to get the wheels rotated and balanced on the Jeep. I believe that the tires are wearing funny from being towed and I am getting a bad shimmy at 55 - 60 MPH. It's so bad I have to get it done now.

We are in a campground about nine miles south of South Bend, Id. We pretty much have the whole place to ourselves.

If You Build It, He Will Come

If you saw the movie "Field of Dreams", the title should have given you a hint of where we went.

Looks familiar doesn't it, there was a small bridge to drive over and we hope that we didn't break through it.The farm house as it is today, so homey looking.

It only took four days to construct the ball field.

Hey, is that one of the ghost players coming out of the corn field? Note the height of the corn stalks. There's a gift shop to the right of this shot where you can get movie memorabilia.

The home is no longer lived in but could be if you want to but the farm, yup....it's for sale.

Time to move on.

As we continued down the back roads we ran into a sign that took us here.

Reagan's home town, Tampico, Ill.

Not able to find the home where his family lived when he was born but there was this mural on the side of a building in town.

The town even had banners on the light post.

We drove too much today, I don't like staying in Walmarts so I found this old vacant garage by the highway.
